Basement Cleaning

We made some progress removing hay and snow from our basement on Saturday. We had much help but got a late start and there is much to do yet. Some of the snow is packed quite hard from foot traffic, and some of the debris is frozen to floor, so it may be best to just wait until the basement is heated before doing much more cleaning. The list of helpers is pretty long: Tyler, Isaac, Andrew, Abby, Anna, Nathan, Katherine and Fred (hope I didn't miss anyone)....

Hopefully the DH finish crew will finish up early this week to be followed by electric and gas installation, plumbing work, and the basement cement work.

Pay no attention to the long orange wire...

On Friday CenturyTel came and installed our phone service, via an orange temporary cable which will be replaced with a buried wire once the ground thaws. The wire is maybe 800' long, starting north of us on County N, traveling along the road and through two cuverts before reaching our house. The cable looks quite vulnerable, and I'd be surprised if it isn't accidently cut sometime before the permanent wire is installed.

House Setting Movie!

Click this link to see a movie of our house setting today!

The House Was Delivered Today!

Many pics today! Things went smoothly, for the most part. :-) See below for pictures, and I'll add a movie link as soon as the movie is available. We are waiting to hear when the finish crew will be able to come out and put the finishing touches on the house, after which we can have electric and gas service installed and complete the basement work which remains. We hope to move into the house in February.

At home in downtown Avoca?

We got a call this morning that DesignHomes could not make it up our driveway with the two halves of our house. They backtracked in to Avoca, trying to find a place where we could park the house while waiting for the crane and "crawler" to come on Monday. We met up with Cliff and the DH crew in Avoca, after a brief and expensive chat with an Iowa County cop.

Tree Trimming..

Design Homes needs 18' of clearance to get the pieces of the house up the driveway, so Fred and I trimmed back some of the trees that were encroaching on the driveway. Victoria helped us carry some of the brush. These pictures are from the following day when Em and I went back out for a few more touch-ups.

Jon Plows The Driveway

My brother Jon and his girlfriend Patty came out and helped us plow the driveway with his ATV. It worked surprisingly well! Thanks a lot Jon!
